NIA Seeks Calcutta High Court Intervention After Officers Attacked in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has asked the Calcutta High Court for help after its officers were attacked in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal. The NIA says their officers were attacked while they were doing their job, questioning two local leaders about a case. They also mentioned that the State Police accused their officers of 'molestation' in FIRs filed after the attack.

The case will be heard by Justice Jay Sengupta. The NIA has been investigating blasts that happened in Bhupatinagar back in 2022. It's alleged that when the NIA officers went to the area to investigate, locals attacked them. This happened while they were transporting two accused persons, who were also influential local leaders. The attack caused damage to the NIA's vehicle and one officer was injured.

Although the NIA reported the attack to the local police station, no action was taken. Instead, the local police registered a complaint of molestation against the NIA officers, as claimed by the accused's family members.

According to local reports, the attacks happened because the NIA had taken two Trinamool Congress leaders, Manobrata Jana and Balaicharan Maiti, into custody in connection with the blasts.
